Everyone at some point in their life will go through a difficult situation of events. With this comes struggle and pain. Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” and Kesha’s song “Praying” both display a difficult situation for the character. Also, both of the characters end up figuring it out and getting over their pain and struggle. This is just one of the many ways they are similar. In both texts, we learn that getting over your problems and moving on will make you a happier and stronger person.
A common theme suggested in both texts is dealing with the people around you and not letting those people change your opinion and not letting them get to you. In Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” the people surrounding Montag do not think like him. They all believe that books are bad and should be burned. Montag thinks the opposite, and doesn’t think that books are bad. In Kesha’s “Praying” the speaker seems to be dealing with a break up with a recent boyfriend. She doesn’t think the same way that her old boyfriend seemed to. He seemed to have been not treating her with respect, and the speaker did not like or agree with that. Although both characters do not agree with the people around them, they have gotten over it, and do not wish anything bad upon them. For example, in Kesha’s “Praying” she states “you brought the flames and you put me through hell” this shows that her old boyfriend was not treating her well. Then later she states “I hope you find your peace” This shows that she doesn’t wish anything bad upon them.
Although both stories have these similarities about problems in life, they do have their differences. In Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451”, Montag is losing his mind during some parts of the story. This is because it seems as if everyone around him is against him. Everyone around him does not think books are good, while he does. In Kesha’s “Praying” the speaker is doing the exact opposite. She is finding her peace throughout the whole time. So while Montag is stressing out at points, the speaker in “Praying” is getting over her problems. As stated in “Praying”, “I can thank you for how strong I have become” and, “And I don’t need you, I found a strength I’ve never known.” This shows that she is getting over her relationship and she doesn’t need her ex’s help to be successful.
In both “Fahrenheit 451” and “Praying”, Ray Bradbury and Kesha both show the idea of dealing with difficult situations in life is very hard. They both show the idea of how important it is to get over it. After overlooking both the story and the song, readers will realize that, no matter what happens in life it is always important to recover and forgive, as it will make you a stronger person on the inside. It will help you find your inner peace, and finding your inner peace will make you happy. These lessons will help you live your life to the fullest and be successful.
